Avoiding fraud and phishing and how your fraud solicitor can help

What is phishing?

Phishing is a technique which scammers use to fraudulently manipulate information out of innocent people. This is commonly carried out using emails to scam the reader into thinking that the message is from a company that they recognise or have been dealing with previously. Normally the scammer will choose a well-known company such as in recent times the NHS, and others such as Microsoft and retailers such as eBay and Amazon to convince the reader of their credibility. They will use these emails to acquire personal information from yourself which they will use for malicious activity. If you suspect you may be a victim of phishing then speak to our fraud solicitor here at ABV Solicitors immediately so we can help deal with the issue, minimise the effects and recover any losses for you.

How to avoid phishing

Always make sure to check your emails carefully, click on the full email address of your sender, because this is usually the biggest telltale sign where you can recognise whether the email address is from a genuine company or whether it is a personal email address. Avoid foreign email addresses and look out for those emails which address you according to your email name rather than your full name. An official email will always address you by your full name not using your email address. Unfortunately many people get scammed into sharing their details in this way and if you have fallen victim to such fraudulent activity then there is a risk that you may incur other fraud crimes too, including bank account fraud and many others.
