You may be aware of high-profile #metoo and historical sexual abuse cases that have been in the media. You may know about the posthumous revelations of the sexual abuse endured by many at the hands of Jimmy Savile, for example, but what you may not be so familiar with is what a sexual offence solicitor would have done to represent him in court had he been alive to stand trial. In the UK, everyone is considered to be innocent until proven guilty in the eyes of the law, and this means that the burden of proof is upon the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to bring about a conviction. A sexual offence solicitor defending an individual accused of a sexual crime must have a defence case that calls into question the evidence that was intended to suggest that the defendant had committed the alleged crime. If this prosecution is then questionable, the defendant should be acquitted.
At ABV Solicitors, our sexual offence solicitor is highly trained and experienced in achieving positive outcomes for high-profile cases. We have been rated as a leading firm by The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners again for 2023, and we have also been noted in The Times as being one of the best law firms for the same year. We are available 24/7 for telephone support if you have been called into the police station for questioning, and one of our solicitors will accompany you there, wherever you are in the UK.
What happens at the police station?
If you are asked to go to the police station for questioning, the police would try to get enough evidence to charge you with a crime; this could be rape, historical sexual allegations, child abuse, sexual exploitation or grooming, sexual assault, or indecent images. It is important that you have legal advice during this process to ensure that you only answer appropriate questions, and we will be able to ensure that the police follow all procedures correctly. This intervention from our legal expert could make the difference between whether or not you are charged with a crime.
A charge has been brought against you – what happens next?
If a charge is brought against you, we will take proactive steps to start building a strong defence case to bring into question the accusations the prosecution makes against you in court. We will interview expert witnesses, such as forensic experts, and we work with those who have excellent reputations. We will also gather other evidence, such as CCTV footage. We will then represent you in the Magistrates’ Court before supporting the barristers and QCs, who will be representing you in the Crown Court. Serious cases such as sexual offences will always be referred to the Crown Court. We will be with you every step of the way, from the police station to a verdict being given in the Crown Court.
So, if you are looking for powerful legal representation from a highly regarded legal firm with a strong record of success, contact us at ABV Solicitors, and our legal team will be ready to support you wherever you are in the UK at any time.
