Announcement:
The Partners at ABV Solicitors are proud to announce that Tan Ikram has been appointed a District Judge on the South Eastern Circuit. Due to this full time appointment, Tan is no longer a solicitor at this firm. We wish him every success in his judicial career.

Tan was Called to the Inner Temple as a Barrister in 1990 and practiced as a solicitor advocate in the Crown Courts, specialising in fraud, serious and complex crime.

He was previously Head of Department at a leading ‘Legal 500’ Practice before joining ABV Solicitors in 2007. He was recognised as one of the region’s leading solicitors in Chambers and Partners 2009 which said of him ‘Tan Ikram is one of the region’s leading names for crime-related cases. “When you speak to him, you know you’re getting the best advice out there,” clients say.’

Tan was an accomplished advocate and was given a ‘red bag’ by his QC for his work at a drugs trial at the Old Bailey. He has been involved in very high profile cases throughout his career and involved in the following reported cases:

R v Musone & Others, R v Alibhai & Others, R v Saleem, Government of Trinidad v Gomes (extradition).

He has defended in a wide spectrum of cases ranging from election fraud, large scale VAT & tax fraud to recent high profile cash and gold bullion robberies across the South of England. He has also acted as junior counsel in many serious cases including murder and drugs supply cases.

Aside from his practice, he served as the President of the London Criminal Courts’ Solicitors’ Association in 2007-2008 and regularly writes & lectures criminal law to fellow solicitors. He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Far East as well as here in the UK.

Whilst in private practice he also found time to sit as a Deputy District Judge (MC), was a Legal Chairman for PMETB and a Legal Assessor to the Nursing Midwifery Council Professional Conduct Committee.

Tan is a classic car fan and owns two Jaguar Mk2’s the car he reminds us was the get away car of the 1960’s and is hoping to take part in the Ramshackle Car Rally across Europe in 2009.
